Statement in Support of the Stockholm Commuter Train Workers Strike.

The contributors to this weblog: Miguel Angel Torres, Manuel Mendoza, Emmanuel Goldstein, and James Coburn unanimously endorse and support the striking Stockholm commuter train workers. We unanimously condemn the Social Democrat labor bureaucrats and political flacks who stand against workers engaged in strike action.

Statement of Sweden's Communist Party

After a long struggle, the train drivers have had enough and called a strike - they want to keep the train stewards and thus also their working environment, safety and security; they don't want to be alone on the trains with all the risks that entails. They have waged the fight against MTR, a Chinese state-owned company, which, like other companies, seeks to maximize profit and growth.

In its struggle for profit and against the workers, the Chinese state has invaluable support from Swedish labor law, which is far-reaching in its restrictions on the right to strike. It has made it impossible for the train drivers to wage their struggle through normal channels, which is also why the strike is branded as "wild". This we refuse to accept - we do not approve of the class laws which declare strikes illegal and which threaten fines and reprisals; we therefore uphold the slogan that "the law is the worker's right", that the law we recognize is also the one that starts from the worker's right and not from capital's.

Precisely because the strike has been judged "wild" and illegal, the striking workers risk both fines and other reprisals, as well as loss of wages as they have no access to a strike fund. The management of the union does not stand behind the strike, but is concerned because "the strike worsens their negotiating position". That's what Social Democracy is talking about while the workers are moving. This is how social democracy tries to hold back the workers who start to move.

To make things easier for the workers, we call on all our members and sympathizers to donate what they can to the workers' strike fund. This is done with the following information:

Swish: 123 699 29 52
Bankgiro: 418-6482
Mark the payment with "tågvärd".

Sweden's Communist Party and Sweden's Communist Youth League unreservedly stand behind the legitimate strike that the commuter train workers are carrying out and we condemn every attempt to prevent them from striking and every reprisal that will be directed against them, regardless of whether this comes from the company or the state.
